New Pews and Carpeting: This summer we will install new pews and carpeting in our parish church. The current pews are “original equipment” going back to 1969. They are not attractive to look at nor comfortable to sit on. The new ones will be contoured to align with the human spine and will have a lighter finish to brighten the church’s interior.

The carpet is still in tolerable shape, but it is not going to get better, so it makes sense to replace it while the pews are being replaced.

The good news is that there should be adequate funds coming from the capital campaign pledge payments to make this financially possible. The not so good news is that this will take place over two weekends in August during which we will be unable to celebrate Mass in the church. We are looking into alternate worship sites for the period when the church is unavailable. We should have a plan in the next few weeks which we will publicize in the bulletin.

“Fragrance Free”: Our Lady of Victory Parish is welcoming a new family whose youngest child has had severe life-threatening health issues over the past decade including severe reactions to fragrances. To be able to accommodate this new family as the ADA (American’s with Disabilities Act) requires, we will setting aside pews designated as a “fragrance free” area. Once we have marked these pews, we would ask that you refrain from any scented products when using these pews as this could cause an allergic reaction for some of our  parishioners who will be using “fragrance free” pews. Fragrances found in perfumes, colognes, aftershave, hair products and in laundry soap and fabric softeners can cause a variety of negative health reactions for not only this new 11-year old parishioner, but for    other parishioners as well.

Annual Catholic Appeal: The Annual Catholic Appeal is a vital part of the Catholic Church’s  mission in Central Pennsylvania.  If you have not made a gift to the Annual Catholic Appeal, please pick up a spare envelope in the Gathering Space. You may return it to the parish   office, place it in next week’s offertory, or mail it to OLV.

To date 519 households have pledged $176,997.00 towards our goal of $133,917.  Thank you for your generous support!

First Holy Communion: Our First Holy Communion class will receive the Lord in the  Eucharist at the 10:30am Mass this coming Saturday, April 27th. Please keep them and their parents in your prayers.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas: The state convention of the C. D. of A. is being held in State College this year. The convention will open with Mass at 4:30pm in our church on Friday, April 26th. Bishop Mark Bartchak will be the main celebrant. You may join us for the Mass if you like.

May Crowning: The annual Parish May Crowning of the Blessed Mother statue will take place after the 9:30am Mass on May 5th. Members of this year’s First Holy Communion class will lead us in this celebration to honor Mary, our Mother.
