FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, please read the following SECURITY          UPDATE FOR OLV PARISH AND SCHOOL.  We have all been shocked and saddened by the events we have witnessed over the last few months involving violence on school grounds and in churches across our Country. I just wanted to take a moment to assure you that are being proactive are very engaged with this issue, and have taken and are taking actions to improve the safety of all of our parishioners and our most precious possession, your children, our students. Over the last few years at Our Lady of Victory, you may have observed the upgrades we have done on our school’s  exterior windows and doors, the Pre-school entrance modification, as well as the enhanced exterior lighting and signage. Additionally, we have improved classroom-to-office communications and have increased our video surveillance both in and outside the Parish buildings expanding from about 12 to well over 50 cameras. We continue to explore other facility options for enhanced security and will be installing new classroom doors this summer. Additionally, we have been engaged for quite some time with the State College Police Department for expanded support to our school.  The OLV Security Committee has recently completed, after a 90-day posting for public comment, its Emergency Response Plan (ERP) for the Parish and is in the process of  developing a consolidated training concept for the OLV Schools and Office staffs.  We are reorganizing our ushers to better assist you.  We are also planning on hiring a full-time security guard for our Parish schools for the upcoming school year.  Finally, we now have mutual aid agreements for safe haven support with both the State College School District and the Young Scholars of Central Pennsylvania (YSCP) School just down Westerly Parkway. While we understand that there is no way to provide a 100% guarantee of protection against all the possible threats that exist, we do feel confident that we are doing as much as we can, or should, to ensure all our parishioners, our students and our families are safe and feel comfortable being here at OLV.  If you have any questions concerning safety or security, please feel free to contact me or Andy Mazzara, the head of our OLV Security Committee.

I want to THANK Andy Mazzara and the Security Council for their work in making our school and      parish a safe place to learn and worship.  Like it was stated above, no place is 100% safe; but we are trying to make our grounds as safe as possible.  Thanks everyone.

Next Saturday, April 28th, our parish will celebrate FIRST HOLY COMMUNION for our 2nd graders at 10:30am.  I want to congratulate all those who will be receiving Jesus for the first time in Holy  Communion.  May the Lord dwell within their hearts at all time and may they come to know of Jesus’ loving presence throughout their lives.  God bless them all.

Because of the celebration of First Holy Communion, THE REGULAR CONFESSION SCHEDULE FOR 9:45am has been canceled. This allows time for us to prepare for this celebration.  Thank you for your understanding for the need to cancel the scheduled time.

As you can see when you drive onto our parish grounds, thanks to a generous donation from Barbara Mahute, who has a special love for the pre-school, the PRE-SCHOOL FENCE AND PLAY AREA is undergoing a transformation.  The new fence will offer more protection for our little ones as they play in the yard.  Once again, the project is being accomplished by our own maintenance crew, thereby saving us much in labor as from an outside firm.  When it is finally finished, I am sure it will be a  welcomed addition to our school, especially for the safety of our pre-school students.
