FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, THIS WEEKEND we CELEBRATE THE TRANSFIGURATION OF OUR LORD. I or the computer made a mistake last weekend when I transferred this article for the bulletin.  I was a week ahead.  But these things will happen when working with bulletins a week or so ahead of time.  However, to state it once again as a reminder, the Church celebrates this Solemnity even when it falls on a Sunday.  The numerical consecutive Sundays take a pause while we remember this wonderful experience.  Why?  I think it is needed as a reminder to all of us – that despite the many sufferings, trials and tribulations we face in this life, we are assured of the ultimate victory in Christ Jesus.  We cannot stay on top of the mountain forever.  We need to continue to walk through this valley of tears.  The Transfiguration gives us the courage, strength and assurance that if we don’t quit and give up, we will be victorious in the power of Jesus Christ who Himself accepted the Crown of Thorns before the Crown of Victory.

On Monday, our dear friend FR. RALPH will be returning to Ghana.  It was a pleasure to have him here.  Not only did he help with the schedule; but it was also great to hear what progress he has made with the school with the help from his American friends.  I am sure we all wish him a safe trip to Ghana and will look forward to his return with more great news next year.  There are still gold envelopes  available for the continuation of his work, especially with the procurement of a school bus next year.  The envelopes will remain in the baptistery area throughout the year.  Anyone at any time can contribute to this worthwhile cause.  God bless you Fr. Ralph and may you have a safe return trip.

Next Sunday evening we will spend a NIGHT WITH THE SPIKES WITH THE NORTHERN         DEANERY at 6:00 PM.  As Dean of the Northern Deanery, I think this is a wonderful way to celebrate the great parishes we have in the North.  So often the only time we get together is during the Penance Services.  Here we get a chance to play together and root on the Spikes.  Please call the rectory for your reservation.  The cost is just $10.00.  Choirs from the churches will sing the National Anthem and America the Beautiful before and during the game.

We had our final instructions concerning THE NEW PHONE SYSTEM FOR THE SCHOOL,            PRE-SCHOOL AND RECTORY. We wanted the phone systems in each place to be tied together and hopefully they are.  For us they should be a bit easier to work with and I hope that turns out to be true.  However, still be patient with us until we learn all the ins and outs of the new system.  If you get cut off, please call back.  Once everything is worked out, it will be a wonderful change to our parish plant.

A LOOK AHEAD – Please plan to attend our ANNUAL PARISH PICNIC. It will be held on August 27th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Knight of Columbus grounds.  Each year it gets bigger and bigger and I am so pleased with the attendance.  It speaks highly of an active parish.  Mark your calendars and be with us as we celebrate OUR LADY OF VICTORY FAMILY.

HUMOR FOR THE WEEK - Some Ways To Terrorize A Telemarketer

1. When they ask "How are you today?" Tell them! "I'm so glad you asked because no one these days seems to care, and I have all these problems; my arthritis is acting up, my eyelashes are sore, my dog just died."

2. If they say they're John Doe from XYZ Company, ask them to spell their name. Then ask them to spell the company name. Then ask them where it is located. Continue asking them personal          questions or questions about their company for as long as necessary.

3. 3. Cry out in surprise, "Judy! Is that you? Oh my gosh! Judy, how have you been?" Hopefully, this will give Judy a few brief moments of pause as she tries to figure out how she knows you.

4. If MCI calls trying to get you to sign up for the Family and Friends plan, reply, in as SINISTER a voice as you can, "I don't have any friends... would you be my friend?"

5. If they want to loan you money, tell them you just filed for bankruptcy and you could sure use some money.
