FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, Beginning the Church's liturgical year, ADVENT (from, "ad-venire" in Latin or "to come to") is the season encompassing the four Sundays (and weekdays) leading up to the celebration of Christmas beginning this weekend.  The Advent season is a time of preparation that directs our hearts and minds to Christ’s second coming at the end of time and also to the anniversary of the Lord’s birth on Christmas. The final days of Advent, from December 17 to December 24, focus particularly on our preparation for the celebrations of the Nativity of our Lord (Christmas).  Advent devotions including the Advent wreath, remind us of the meaning of the season. The Advent calendar can help us fully enter in to the season with daily activity and prayer suggestions to prepare you spiritually for the birth of Jesus Christ.  The “Word Among Us” meditation booklets can help us prepare our hearts using the liturgical texts for Mass and the articles within might help direct our minds to the true purpose of the Christmas Season.  As we begin this season this weekend, may our minds, hearts and souls be lifted up to the Lord as we prepare to once again welcome the new born babe of Bethlehem.

As you know, the Northern Deanery conducts PENANCE SERVICES for Christmas and Easter.  I have        finalized the services for us in the North and I would like to let you know the times and places for the          opportunity of reconciliation in preparation for Christmas.

-              December 3, Holy Spirit, Lock Haven at 3:00 PM

-              December 4, PSU Campus at 7:00 PM

-              December 6, St. Joseph, Renovo at 6:30 PM

-              December 11, St. Matthew, Tyrone at 7:00 PM

-              December 12, Good Shepherd, State College at 7:00 PM

-              December 13, Queen of Archangels, Clarence at 7:00 PM

-              December 14, Most Holy Trinity, Huntingdon at 7:00 PM

-              December 17, OLV at 2:00 PM

-              December 21, SS Peter and Paul, Philipsburg at 7:00 PM

Please note that ours will be on the 17th and we will have the services of about 14 priests, so waiting should not be long. And of course, Fr. Antony and Fr. Jonathan and I will be attending all the services so our       presence at the rectory might be limited.  Also please note that since 2 of the penance services fall on Wednesdays (the 6th and 13th), our all-day Adoration will end at 3:00 PM allowing us the time to get to the churches.  Thank you for your understanding at this busy time of the year for all of us.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS – December 16th from 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM is our ANNUAL 18 and over CHRISTMAS PARTY at the Ramada.  There is no cost for the party and it is my way of saying “thanks” for being such a wonderful parish family.  Please call the rectory for your reservation now.

Just a reminder that this Friday December 8th we celebrate the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, A HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION. Masses will be celebrated on Thursday evening at 6:00 and Friday at 7:00 and 9:00 AM (school Mass) and 12:05 PM.

Once again, OLV will be participating in the GIVING TREE this Christmas Season. As you know the Family Life Committee will erect a tree in the baptistery area with various requested gifts for the less fortunate in our area.  Parishioners are asked to take the tags from the tree, purchase the gift and return it to the church the following weekend.  These gifts will be collected and distributed making the Christmas Season a little bit merrier for our neighbors.  Thank you for your participation once again.
