FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, please note the following announcement that will serve as a reminder for this Wednesday - After prayerful consideration and in consultation with Fr. Val and Fr. Mike, beginning on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 17TH, our EUCHARISTIC ADORATION DAY will be held on WEDNESDAYS from 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM. Please note the change in DAY and TIME. The change is made for various reasons. With it being held on Wednesdays, our school children will experience the tradition of Eucharistic Adoration. We will have one class each week stay after Mass for a short period of time to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. Secondly, with the 9:00 PM closing time, each priest and Deacon Dave will be available to close with Benediction, instead of having Fr. Mike close with a simple reposition every Thursday. I know from previous experiences that the change might not sit well with some parishioners. But I feel the change is for the better for the priests as well as for the children in our school. Again, I do ask for your understanding and cooperation. And just a note, many parishes in the Diocese do not even have weekly adoration. We are blessed to be able to offer it as we do and as we are able to do.
At this time of year, we all reminded that the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL is upon us. I received the letter from Bishop Mark informing us of our goal for this year. The letter will be in the bulletin next weekend on “my page”. But I did want to inform the parish that our goal has gone up from last year by $9,000.00, due to increases in parish membership and weekly collections. This year’s goal is $147,384.00. From past years’ experience, I know we will meet and surpass our goal with all monies returning to the parish. You will be receiving a letter from me and Bishop Mark in the very near future, encouraging parishioner participation. But until that time, I just wanted to give an early heads-up as we begin the Annual Appeal.
Although it was a little over a month ago, I can now report the CHRISTMAS COLLECTION TOTAL. Christmas envelopes have stopped coming into the rectory so I can announce that the total for 2015 was $73,414.00! What an amazing total and once again it is up from last year by a little over $2,000.00. I am very grateful to the many parishioners who contributed to this collection. Your generosity and kindness is greatly appreciated. As always, I pray that God will bless you with His kindness and goodness which you have shown to your parish. God bless and thanks so much for being a generous parish.
A final reminder for those who would like to have an additional penance this Lenten Season - I will be having another LENTEN ADULT EDUCATION CLASS this spring. For the following 6-7 weeks, we will take a look at some major themes found in St. Paul’s letters. We cannot cover his entire writings, but we will cover some of his theology as found in certain letters. Again, the class will run from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the Activities Center on Mondays.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK - The Reverend Douglas Johnston was not the best of drivers. One Sunday he was driving home from church when unfortunately, he had a minor bump with a cyclist. The poor man was knocked off his bike into the ditch. The Vicar naturally stopped his car, got out and profusely apologized and gave the cyclist his calling card saying that if he could ever be of help, then the man should not hesitate to ask. As the man rode home he looked at the card which said, 'The Reverend Douglas Johnston is sorry he missed you today.'
