Catholicism Series Continues: The second session of Fr. Barron’s “Catholicism Series” starts the week of February 3rd and runs for five sessions, skipping the week of March 3rd (Spring Break). If you were not a participant in the Fall sessions and would like to join a group, email firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will try to fit you into a group.
Today, February 3rd is Saint Blaise Day, when the Church traditionally blesses throats. Because it falls on a Sunday this year, we will not be able to bless people individually after Mass. We will give the blessing in a general way during the Masses on Sunday, before the dismissal. For those who would like an individual throat blessing, we will do so at 2:30pm in the Church.
Lent Is Comin’! Wednesday, February 13th is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent! We will bless and distribute ashes during (not after) all Masses that day.
The Ash Wednesday Mass schedule is:
7:00am, 9:00am (School Mass). 12:05pm and 6:00pm.
Ash Wednesday (Feb. 13) and Good Friday (March 29) are days of Fast and Abstinence. All other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence, but not Fasting. FASTING refers to only one full meal, with two small meals and no eating otherwise for the day. ABSTINENCE refers to not eating meat at all during the day. All those who have reached their 14th year are obliged to ABSTAIN. The Church directs the holy FAST to all those in their 18th year until their 60th year. (Canon 1252). The ancient practice of fasting and abstaining can occur throughout the other days of Lent. This is not obligatory and can take a variety of forms distinct from food.
During Lent, Stations of the Cross will be Fridays at 7:00pm and at 1:30pm when school is in session.
