FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, NATIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week, which in 2015 is January 25 - 31. The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2015 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” This week many activities and events will take place in our school, celebrating who we are, beginning with the 9:30 Mass. I am very proud of our school. We truly have a treasure within our midst. We have a dedicated principal in Samantha Weakland and a dedicated principal for the pre-school in Beth Dougherty; we have dedicated teachers and support staff; we have dedicated volunteers all working for one purpose – to fulfill the Lord’s command to go out bring the gospel message to all of God’s children. I am so very proud of our school. It truly is a joy to walk into both buildings and see the smiles on the faces of our children; to hear the laughter coming from the classrooms; to see the learning taking place within the minds and hearts of God’s children. I hope and pray that all parishioners realize the importance of our school – preschool through the 8th grade. I want to THANK all those families who are sending their children to our school, making the financial sacrifices necessary for their child’s education. I also want to thank all the parishioners who contribute to the school through the Sunday collections and “School Envelope.” Because of the generosity of so many people we are able to keep our school running, educating over 400 students. May God continue to bless us and our children as we follow the Lord’s lead and command to “let the children come unto me.” Our Lady of Victory School is a “Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service.” Thanks to so many for making that a reality.
THANK YOU…THANK YOU…THANK YOU…I have asked Diane for the CHRISTMAS TOTALS in the offertory and it is absolutely wonderful. As of this writing, the total is $71,320.00! This amount surpasses last year’s amount by over $13,000.00! I am so grateful for the increase in the offertory for Christmas this year. As I said to you a few weeks ago, the expenses of the church keep going up each month and the increase in giving will pay for the costs. May God bless all of you who thought of your church this Christmas season. OLV is truly a very generous parish. Thank you from a grateful pastor.
Once again, I will be having a LENTEN SCRIPTURE CLASS exploring the Book of Job and the problem of suffering. As we know, Job has always been known as a long suffering servant of God. By looking at the book, maybe we can come to a little understanding of the suffering Job experienced with an eye on our sharing in the problem of suffering. The class will begin on February 2 and last 6-7 weeks, depending on the schedule of the Northern Deanery Lenten Penance Services. The time will be from 7:00 – 8:00 PM and will take place in the Activities Center.
