Fortnight for Freedom: I would like to thank all those who participated in the recent Fortnight for Freedom in our parish, especially those who helped with the Holy Hour with Bishop Mark Bartchak on July 1. All the events of the two weeks were well-attended, especially the Holy Hour. A special “thank you” to the Knights of Columbus Council 4678 for donating prayer cards, refreshments, and publicity for the events and to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 2521 for hosting the reception for the Bishop after the Holy Hour. Please don’t stop praying for religious liberty!
Attention Married Couples: As part of his Marriage Building Initiative, Bishop Bartchak has asked that each parish in the Diocese ask prayers once a month for those married couples of our parish who are celebrating a wedding anniversary that month. We will be announcing the anniversaries on the weekend of August 18/19. If you are celebrating your wedding anniversary in August and would like to be mentioned in the announcements and included in the petitions, please notify Diane at the church office by August 16.
Marriage Building Initiative: Married Couples Sharing the Good News: Jesus sends out married couples to share his good news. How? Not necessarily by preaching with words, but by being a living example of Christ’s love for His Church. Not by doing heroic things but by the everyday, quiet ways that couples live their commitment. Others will glimpse God’s love in the patience spouses show one another, in the kind way they deal with each other’s human faults, in the respectful way they speak to and of each other.
Annual Parish Bazaar: The date for this year’s Fall Bazaar has ben set - Saturday, Nov. 10th! And we have a new coordinator - Chris Kirkpatrick! Chris can be reached at 237-7832, ext. 204. We plan to have a tailgate, crafts, ethnic food, baked goods, theme baskets, and a raffle once again, plus bringing back the silent auction, children’s games and live entertainment! If you would like to help in one or more of these areas, or another area, please let Chris Kirkpatrick know ASAP.
Missionary Co-op Sunday: On the weekend of July 21/22 there will be a visiting missionary priest preaching at all the Masses. He is Rev. Jairo Franco, MXY. He is a priest of the Yarumal Mission Society, a society of apostolic life founded and based in Columbia. Father Franco has served in Columbia. Currently he is working in Kenya, Africa. He speaks English, Spanish, Kiswahili and Kisamboro languages. The goal of the Yarumal Missionaries, who were founded 85 years ago, is to witness the Gospel of Jesus Christ among peoples and cultures where the Gospel is not yet fully preached. They are present in two countries in Asia, five in Africa, and six in South America. In order to carry out their pastoral programs, these missionaries depend very much on the generosity of the Christians from parishes they visit. Our support for Fr. Franco is a sign that reminds us of our baptismal vocation: we are also missionaries of Christ.
