FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, Bishop Mark Bartchak will celebrate an outdoor Mass for students entering or returning to college this fall and their families. The Liturgy will be celebrated on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., at the Our Lady of the Alleghenies Shrine in Loretto. The Bishop will offer a special blessing to the students and enjoy fellowship with them after the Mass. In the event of rain, the Mass will be celebrated inside the Basilica of Saint Michael the Archangel in Loretto. If anyone is interested in attending this MASS FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS, please call the rectory so that we may inform the Diocesan Office.

A few weeks ago I returned from my vacation – THIS TIME TO FRANCE. It was truly an enjoyable time with visits to Normandy Beaches, Versailles, Paris and the like. Two high points in the trip for me were traveling to Lisieux to visit the convent and burial place of St. Therese, a.k.a. the Little Flower of Jesus and attending Mass at Notre Dame Cathedral. At both places to be able to receive the Eucharist was very special to me.   St. Therese has a very special place in my life and in the lives of very close friends and to make a trip to her burial place to say “thanks” was spiritually uplifting to me and my friends. And at Notre Dame Cathedral, I prayed that our parish may continue to grow in the love and holiness of Our Blessed Mother, under whose watch we live. My goal as your pastor is to nurture a parish community, a parish family in love and holiness throughout the years. We have a wonderful parish, with wonderful parishioners who exemplify the Gospel norms and values of love, compassion, kindness and generosity. May God continue to bless us and may we continue to follow the law of love that will become the hallmark of OLV parish.

A COUPLE OF ACTIVITIES FOR OUR PARISH – 1) The NORTHERN DEANERY                      COMMUNITY NIGHT with the Spikes will be held on August 2nd as we watch the Spikes battle the Lowell Red Sox. The price of the ticket is $9.50 and the choirs from the various churches will be singing the National Anthem and God Bless America. Please call the rectory and reserve your seat as we celebrate our parish family with other families from the Northern  Deanery. 2) We will be having a bus going to Sight & Sound on August 25th to see THE MUSICAL JOSEPH, followed by dinner at Hershey Farms. The cost of the trip is $80.00 which includes bus transportation, the show and dinner afterwards. Please call the rectory to   reserve your seat. Once again, these bus trips as for the sole purpose of drawing our parish closer together as a family who not only prays but also plays. I know many might tire of me    saying that, but I truly believe it. Our journey to the Kingdom is not to be one of sad faces, little laughter, striking our breasts constantly, and the like. We journey together reaching out to one another, enjoying the gifts that God has given us. May we follow our Good Lord into His        kingdom where there will be laughter, joy and love forever. Why not have a little taste of it on earth, now!

HUMOR FOR THE WEEK – A parishioner (truly from OLV) did his annual 10k run over the weekend and was trying to explain to his son what a race like this is really about and why it is important for him to use this to stay in shape etc. He asked, “Who will you be racing against?” To which the father responded, “Father Time” and then tried to explain what that meant. So, his son watches him and about 500 others finish the race and sees how spent and exhausted the father was. After a cool down and grabbing a free banana (which is the main reason the son  really wanted to be there), they were walking back to the car. At that point, the father realized his son did not understand what he was explaining the day before or what he was trying to teach him about the race because his son said, “Dad, I thought you said you were racing against a priest?”
