FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, this week our good friend from Ghana will be returning to OLV for a short visit. REV. RAPHAEL MENSAH, A.K.A. FR. RALPH, will be flying in and he will be with us throughout the month of July. If you remember, Fr. Ralph administers Holy Name of Mary School, which our parish supports. He will report to us of the progress the school is making and the good things that are happening in Ghana. May he have a safe trip and a restful, but productive, summer here with us.
This week I will be leaving for my SUMMER VACATION. To say the least, it has been a very interesting year since my last summer vacation and I am looking forward to the time away. And by God’s grace, it will be nice to have Fr. Ralph here to help with the work load. I will see you all again in mid-July. Keep me and those I am traveling with in your prayers. I turn the parish over to the capable hands of Fr. Val, Fr. Mike and Deacon Dave.
With the 4th of July this coming Saturday, the RECTORY OFFICE WILL BE CLOSED ON FRIDAY of this week in its observance. We will resume regular office hours on Monday. This will give the staff and priests a little mid-summer break.
And as we celebrate the 4th of July, INDEPENDENCE DAY, I just want to remind parishioners that there should not be any independence from God. What I mean by that is to remember that Mass attendance during the summer time is not optional. I know that with traveling and going here and there, it might be hard to find a church to attend. That is why I find MASSTIMES.ORG a very handy tool. When you click on that link, you can find out where the nearest Catholic Church is and the times for Mass, confessions, etc. In today’s modern age of electronics and the like, it is very easy to find a church when traveling and to make sure that the family continues to honor God throughout the summer time, if one wants to.
ANOTHER REMINDER - Once again, beginning July 7, the Tuesday evening schedule is: CONFESSIONS at 6:00 PM, followed by MASS at 7:00 PM. The pro-life rosary will be prayed after the Mass. Thank you for your understanding in this matter. There will be no evening confessions on Wednesdays. Hopefully this will increase attendance at the evening Mass on Tuesday.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK - Three contractors were touring the White House on the same day. One was from New York, another from Missouri, and the third from Florida. At the end of the tour, the guard asked them what they did for a living. When they each replied that they were contractors, the guard said, "Hey we need one of the rear fences redone. Why don't you guys take a look at it and give me your bids." First, the Florida contractor took out his tape measure and pencil, did some measuring and said, "I figure the job will run about $900 -- $400 for materials, $400 for my crew, and $100 profit for me." Next was the Missouri contractor. He also took out his tape measure and pencil, did some quick calculations and said, "Looks like I can do this job for $700 -- $300 for materials, $300 for my crew, and $100 profit for me." Finally, the guard asks the New York contractor for his bid. Without batting an eye, the contractor says, "$2,700." The guard, incredulous, looks at him and says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?" "Easy," says the contractor from New York, "$1,000 for me, $1,000 for you, and we hire the guy from Missouri."
