FROM THE PASTOR….MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, as in the life of all priests, we really do not have a place to call our own. Keeping with the Lord’s command to “Go, teach all nations and baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” we are seeing this played out in the life of our assistant, FR. MATT. As you already know, Father Matt will be leaving us in mid-July. Since he is nearing his pastorate, the Bishop has the unwritten policy that a priest should have 2 assignments before becoming a pastor. Father has been with us for 5 years and now he will be moving on to his second assignment at St. Benedict’s in Johnstown. I am grateful to Father Matt for his assistance over the past year. With 2 new priests coming in, he helped make our transition easy. There will be a good-bye reception for Father Matt after all the masses on the weekend of July 12-13 over in the parish Activities Center. Unfortunately, I will be away for the reception. I will be in Europe for 2 weeks, leaving after Mass this weekend. I can only pray that Fr. Matt will find his experience at St. Benedict’s as rewarding as his stay at OLV has been for him. God bless you Fr. Matt.
And welcome to FATHER MICHAEL WOLFE. Fr. Mike is ordained 5 years and this will be his second assignment as well. He is coming from St. Benedict’s in Johnstown, yes, where Fr. Matt is going. I have known Fr. Mike for 18 years. He was my altar server at St. Agnes in Lock Haven, he was part of the Newman Club at Lock Haven University (where I served as chaplain) and I was honored to preach his first Mass at St. Agnes, now Holy Spirit. Fr. Mike is a fine priest who will work very hard for our parish. I am sure he will receive the support and love that has been given to me and Fr. Val when we came. Welcome Fr. Mike and may God grant you years of happiness and fulfillment as you begin your priestly ministry at Our Lady of Victory. We will have a welcome reception for Fr. Mike after all the Masses on the weekend of July 19-20.
Our Lady of Victory Parish will be going to NEW YORK CITY FOR A DAY ON YOUR OWN on July 30th. The bus will leave the church parking lot at 5:30am and stop for a quick breakfast on the way. The bus will drop us off in mid-town Manhattan and the day will be on your own. Since it is a Wednesday, there will be shows in the afternoon; however tickets are on your own. You can see a list of shows and tickets by going to playbill.com. After the free day, the bus will pick us up at 6:45pm (leave the city around 7pm) and return to State College around 11:00pm. The price for this trip is $45.00 and we have 45 seats available. Payment is due at time of reservation. Make checks payable to Our Lady of Victory with ’NYC Trip’ in the memo line. I think this will be a popular trip so please call now for your reservation.
As I said above, I will be going to Europe for 2 weeks and therefore will be OUT OF THE OFFICE. I turn the parish over to Fr. Val, Fr. Mike and Deacon Dave. Please keep me and those traveling with me in your prayers as we journey to Croatia. See you in a couple of weeks.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK - Goodbye Mom
A couple was going out for the evening. The last thing they did was to put the cat out. The taxi arrived, and as the couple walked out of the house, the cat shoots back in. So the husband goes back inside to chase it out. The wife, not wanting it known that the house would be empty, explained to the taxi driver "He's just going upstairs to say goodbye to my mother." A few minutes later, the husband got into the taxi and said, "Sorry I took so long, the stupid thing was hiding under the bed and I had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out!"
