FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, as we continue our Lenten Journey to Easter, I have finalized the dates and times for the NORTHERN DEANERY PENANCE SERVICES. Please take careful notice of the schedule and plan to attend one of these services in anticipation of the celebration of the Easter Mysteries.
- Sunday, March 1 (this Sunday) at St. John’s, Bellefonte beginning at 1:00 PM
- Sunday, March 15 at Holy Spirit, Lock Haven, beginning at 3:00 PM
- Thursday, March 19 at Queen of Archangels, Clarence beginning at 7:00 PM
- Monday, March 23 at St. Joseph’s, Renovo beginning at 7:00 PM
- Tuesday, March 24 at Good Shepherd, State College beginning at 7:00 PM. This service will
be celebrated by and with Bishop Mark.
- Thursday, March 26 at St. Matthew’s, Tyrone beginning at 7:00 PM
- Sunday, March 29 (Palm Sunday) at OLV beginning at 2:00 PM
- Tuesday, March 31 at PSU Campus, beginning at 7:00 PM
With the above times and dates, no one will be denied the opportunity of celebrating the sacrament. For your information, the priests of the parish will be out participating in the services, so our time in the rectory will be limited. Also, please note that our penance service on Palm Sunday will be the LAST SCHEDULED SERVICE in our parish. It is our hope that parishioners will have celebrated the sacrament in preparation for the celebration of Holy Week. Plus, this will allow your priests to prepare themselves to lead the services at the church. Thank you for your understanding. I will be running this announcement throughout the weeks of Lent.
Just a heads up that the ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL will begin once again in the Diocese. We received our letter from the Bishop and it will be reprinted in the bulletin at a later date. Within the letter we also received our goal - $138,976.00. The good news is that it did not go up from last year and the other part of the good news is that I am confident that we will meet our goal and exceed it once again. OLV has always met their goal which fills me with the confidence and assurance that it will be the same this year. More information will come in future bulletins, but I just wanted you all to be prepared.
ANOTHER REMINDER - Over the past few years that I can remember, the school has always held a golf tournament as a fund-raiser. This year the Athletic Council decided that we would like to get more families involved in an event for the school. Therefore after careful consideration it was decided that we would have a 5K VICTORY RUN on May 16 of this year. Donations made and runners interested in this event can log on to OLVevents.org/events/victory-5k-run-donation for more information or you can use the same web site to register to run. I think this will be a great event for our school and more families – Mom, Dad and children – will be able to participate and enjoy the day. I was given a peek of the medals that will be awarded for the winners in the various age groups and they are professionally done and they will be a great addition to any serious runner’s trophies and medals. There is more information in the bulletin, but I wanted to give a little heads up to spur on interest in this wonderful event for the school. So please mark your calendars for May 16 and run for victory.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK – A husband was trying to prove to his wife that women talk more than men. He showed her a study which indicated that men use about 10,000 words per day, whereas women use 20,000 words per day. His wife thought about this for a while. She then told her husband that women use twice as many words as men because they have to repeat everything they say. Her husband looked stunned. He said "What?"
