FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, it is hard to believe that I am already typing these words to you – LENT BEGINS THIS WEDNESDAY! It seems like we just cleaned up the church from  Christmas and now we are preparing to walk through the desert with the Lord leading up to the celebration of Easter.  And that is how I personally look at Lent – as a journey through the desert.  Why do I say that?  Look at the Old Testament with the Jewish nation traveling through the desert for 40 years.  What was the purpose of that?  It is very simple.  In the desert, there is nothing and God was teaching them to rely upon Him for everything.  Deprived of earthly and material things, God wanted them to know that He will provide for their needs and that He will look out for them.  And if they follow His way, they will reach the Promised Land.  However as we know, that lesson took many years for them to understand.  That leads to us  today.  As we live our years out, God also wants us to come to an understanding that only He can provide the ultimate happiness we are searching for.  Through our journey of 40 days in Lent, may we come to understand that by following His way for us here on earth, we are journeying to our Promised Land of heaven.  And so over the next 40 days may our journey be a fruitful one; may we allow God to lead us and rid ourselves of anything that hinders our walk through our Lenten Desert this year.

Please take note of the following as Our Lady of Victory prepares to enter into this Lenten Season:

 1.  We will have the DISTRIBUTION OF ASHES during the Masses. Our liturgies will be celebrated at 7:00 and 9:00 AM, 12:05 and 6:00 PM. Due to the many Masses, we will NOT HAVE ADORATION ON ASH  WEDNESDAY.

 2.  STATIONS OF THE CROSS will be prayed on Friday evenings at 7:00 PM. Stations of the Cross with the school children (when in session) will be celebrated on Friday afternoon’s beginning at 1:45.

 3.  We are finalizing the NORTHERN DEANERY PENANCE SERVICES for this season. I will publish them shortly. But for your information, OLV PENANCE SERVICE will be held on April 14 at 2:00 PM.

 4.  My Lenten class, JESUS, HIS MISSION AND MESSAGE, will continue to be held on Mondays from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the Activity Center.

 5.  Please feel free to take the popular MEDITATION BOOKLET – THE WORD AMONG US – found throughout the church. They are free and we ordered extra to take to those who would enjoy them as well.

 6.  A reminder that Friday’s during lent are times of ABSTINENCE and Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of FASTING AND ABSTINENCE.

May our journey through the desert these next few weeks bring us closer to understand our dependence          upon God for all things until the day we can thank Him forever in heaven.
