FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, this Thursday, May 5 the church celebrates the ASCENSION OF OUR LORD INTO HEAVEN, a holy day of obligation. It has been 40 days since the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord, and now the church is preparing our hearts for the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost. With the Lord’s departure, the work of the Spirit now begins to bring the Lord’s message and words into the lives and hearts of others. Masses will be celebrated on Wednesday evening at 6:00, Thursday at 7:00 and 9:00 AM, 12:05 and 6:00 PM.
Because of the Wednesday evening Mass, ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT will end at 5:30 PM with a simple reposition.
This Tuesday May 3, we will travel to Sight and Sound Theatre for the religious musical SAMSON. The bus will leave the church parking lot at 9:30, stop for a breakfast/lunch stop along the way. After the show we will have dinner and return by 11:00 PM. Please be on time for boarding.
MOTHER’S DAY REMEMBRANCES are available on the tables near the entrances of the church. On Mother’s Day, May 10, the envelopes with the names of mothers will be placed by the altar. At that Mass the mothers, living and deceased, will be remembered by the priests. Please, if you want, take an envelope, write the names of your mother upon it and return it to the church rectory.
I want to congratulate our second graders in making their FIRST HOLY COMMUNION this Saturday. This celebration was a big step in their spiritual life and I pray that their first reception of our Blessed Lord will always be remembered and that each time they receive Jesus, their hearts will be open to receive all the graces Jesus wants to give them. May God bless them now and always.
I know I said that I would discuss some CHANGES that will take place in our parish in today’s bulletin due to the lack of priests and the reality that we will not be getting another priest to take the place of Fr. Val. Unfortunately, they are not finalized in my mind yet. Therefore, I will delay their announcement until all the pieces are in order.
Just another reminder that REGISTRATIONS FOR THE VICTORY 5K RUN/WALK on Saturday, May 14 are now being taken. I encourage as many runners/walkers as possible to join us in this run. Last year, I came in 3rd in my age group in the run. This year I plan on finishing 1st. The proceeds for this event will go to support OLV Catholic School Sports Programs. There is more information in the bulletin; but I wanted to give this fund-raising event a push in my column. If you cannot run nor walk, maybe you might be a sponsor of the race or possible sponsor someone to participate. We had a great turn-out last year and I am very hopeful that we will have another great successful event for the school. Come and support all of us as we support the school.
The celebration for the SACRAMENT OF THE SICK will occur on Tuesday, May 10 at 1:30 in the church. The anointing will occur during Mass. Those who are desirous of receiving the anointing are invited to attend.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK - How To Know Whether Or Not You Are Ready To Be A Mother
Mess Test: Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.
Toy Test: Obtain a 55 gallon drum of LEGOs (if LEGOs are not available, you may (substitute roofing tacks). Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream (this could wake a child at night).
Grocery Store Test: Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.
Dressing Test: Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus (they turn bright red when they are unhappy). Stuff into a small net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.
