FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, one of the hallmarks of an active, alive parish is the involvement of parishioners in the operation of the parish. Vatican II stressed the importance of lay participation, not only in the liturgy, but also in the activities of a particular local church. As your pastor, I see this involvement daily. So many good people are working together to make Our Lady of Victory a shining light that burns brightly sometimes in a dark world. I was think about this over the past few months because at the parish there have been so many activities that employed the help of many parishioners. Bishop Mark has been up at our parish 4 times since Lent began, celebrating various liturgies; our penance service was conducted with 13 priests in attendance and meals followed; Holy Week celebrations were prayed; the Easter mysteries were proclaimed; St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy and OLV School had celebrations; receptions in the Activities Center followed many of these events; people were fed; the grounds were prepared; the church cleaned; First Communion and Confirmation were celebrated, with another reception following Confirmation for the Bishop and priests; OLV 8th grade Mass of Blessing was prayed; 5K OLV Victory Run. You see, a priest just does not say Mass and call it a day. Why am I saying this? Because, I want to extend a HEARTFELT THANKS to all those who have worked so hard over the past few months, and who also work so hard throughout the year to make Our Lady of Victory a place where Jesus Christ is worshipped and loved and then that love taken out into the world as witness to the presence of our Blessed Lord. I am very proud to be your pastor and I am very proud to tell other priests when we gather what wonderful parishioners there are at OLV. May God bless you as we enter into the summer season, hopefully slowing down a bit for me.
As a parish that prays together, come and LET US PLAY TOGETHER on June 27th. Our Parish is sponsoring at trip to see the Pittsburgh Pirates play the Atlanta Braves at PNC Park on the 27th for a 4:05 PM starting time. The seats we have reserved are field boxes and the cost is just $71.00, which includes bus transportation and your seat. This is a wonderful way to see a baseball game because you can just sit back and enjoy the air conditioned bus ride and not worry about the drive or parking. You can enjoy the Pirates beating the Braves, have a beverage or two and then sit back and enjoy the trip home. Call the rectory now to reserve your seat. Tickets are still available. The bus will leave OLV at Noon.
It is not too late to CONTRIBUTE TO THE ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL. Our Lady of Victory, once again, has met her goal of $138,976.00. The total so far as of this typing is $206,268.55. That means that so far $67,292.55 will be coming back to the parish. And as I have stated before, the amount over goal will be used to replace both the church and rectory roofs in late summer or early fall. I thank those who have contributed so far and I encourage those who have not done so to please consider giving a gift. These monies not only help our parish, but they also help the people of the diocese by funding the various programs sponsored by the diocese. May God continue to bless us in this Appeal.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK – Dear John, I have been unable to sleep since I broke off our engagement. Won't you forgive and forget? Your absence is breaking my heart. I was a fool - nobody can take your place. I love you. All my love,
P.S. Congratulations on winning this week's lottery
