FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, this weekend we celebrate MOTHER’S DAY. At this time of year we stop and honor those women who have given so much of their lives to care for us, love us and many times make us laugh. There is a story told of a mother who had a great sense of humor and a knack for making everything fun. One thing that was interesting about her was how much she seemed to enjoy her own company and found ways to entertain herself. She would giggle while paying bills. What was so funny about bill paying? She would put humorous notes in the reference section of the check: For the electric bill, she might put “You light up my life,” and for the mortgage she’d write “Four shingles closer to owning it all.” I like that about this one mother for even in paying bills (something we all might dread), she was able to bring some levity and laughter into the lives of her family. And so today we ask God to bless all those Moms who bring laughter into our lives and we ask God to give everlasting life and love (and laughter) to all those Moms who have gone to be with Him in heaven. God bless you all Moms and enjoy your weekend. As a sign of our appreciation for our Moms, we have a small gift for you – “Prayers for Mother.” Please feel free to take one as a token of our appreciation.
Monies are still being collected for the MEMORIAL STATUE OF MARY in remembrance of Fr. Val. To date, $2,768.00 has been collected. We are nearing the decision of what statue of Mary will be selected and place behind the wall where the “Our Lady of Victory” sign is in front of the church. If anyone still wants to make a donation, there is still time.
This Saturday, May 14 Peter Crowe and Jonathan Dickson will be ordained to the DIACONATE, and Donald Gibboney (from Most Holy Trinity, Huntingdon) to the Permanent DIACONATE at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona at 10:00 AM. Peter is a member of Our Lady of Victory and Jonathan was with us for a summer 2 years ago. I pray that God will bless both of them as they take another major step toward their ordination to the priesthood.
Just another reminder that REGISTRATIONS FOR THE VICTORY 5K RUN/WALK FOR THIS COMING SATURDAY are now being taken. I encourage as many runners/walkers as possible to join us in this run. Last year, I came in 3rd in my age group in the run. This year I plan on finishing 1st. The proceeds for this event will go to support OLV Catholic School Sports Programs. There is more information in the bulletin; but I wanted to give this fund-raising event a push in my column. If you cannot run nor walk, maybe you might be a sponsor of the race or possible sponsor someone to participate. We had a great turn-out last year and I am very hopeful that we will have another great successful event for the school. Come and support all of us as we support the school.
The celebration for the SACRAMENT OF THE SICK will occur on Tuesday, May 10 at 1:30 in the church. The anointing will occur during Mass. Those who are desirous of receiving the anointing are invited to attend. And since we will have already had 3 Masses that day, there will be NO EVENING MASS NOR CONFESSIONS.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK - My Mother taught me:
Logic: "Because I said so, that's why."
To Appreciate A Job Well Done: "If you're going to kill each other, do it outside. I just finished cleaning!"
Religion: "You better pray that will come out of the carpet."
Time Travel: "If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!"
Foresight: "Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident."
Irony: "Keep crying and I'll *give* you something to cry about."
The Science Of Osmosis: “Shut your mouth and eat your supper!"
Contortionism: "Will you *look* at the dirt on the back of your neck!"
Stamina: "You'll sit there 'til all that spinach is finished."
Weather: "It looks as if a tornado swept through your room."
How To Solve Physics Problems: "If I yelled because I saw a meteor coming toward you; would you listen then?"
