FROM THE PASTOR...MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, as you know from past years, State College Magazine publishes their yearly “Best of State College.”  Voters pick out the best pizza, best hamburger, restaurant, store, etc.  Well, for those who do not know yet, our school has received the “Silver Best of” award for the BEST CHARTER/PRIVATE SCHOOL along with St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy.  Please see the advertisement          reprinted from the State College Magazine.  I am very proud of this honor.  However, it is something that I have  always known and now the State College Community knows it.  We have a great administration, dedicated teachers and volunteers and wonderful students.  I want to THANK all  families who are taking advantage of the education we are  providing.  I know of the sacrifices made and I am appreciative.  May God continue to bless us as we celebrate being known as the “Silver Award Best Charter/Private School” in State College for 2016.

This Thursday our nation celebrates THANKSGIVING DAY, my second most favorite national holiday.  At this time we stop and thank God for all the blessings He has given us, blessings that we possibly take for granted through the rest of the year.  Because of the holiday, the RECTORY WILL BE CLOSED from 12:00 noon on Wednesday through the weekend.  We will reopen on Monday, November 28th at 9:00 AM.  Again this year, we will have an anticipatory Mass on Wednesday at 7:00 PM.  Because of this,  Eucharistic Adoration will end at 6:30pm with Benediction.  It is my hope that this Mass will help those who might be traveling early on Thursday or who might need extra time on Thanksgiving Day for preparations.  Also we will have our Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00 AM.  This will be the only Mass on that day. Just a reminder, there will only be one Mass at 9:00am on Friday, November 25. This allows staff and priests to enjoy the holiday with their families.

For your information, I am sure you have noticed at time the various DIFFERENT COLORED           CANDLES that are burning in front of the state of Our Lady in the sanctuary.  With each candle there is a special meaning attached:  the 4 red – one is for the intentions of Pope Francis, one for the intentions of Bishop Mark, one for the intentions of your priests and one for those considering a vocation to the priesthood or religious life.  The blue candle is for Fr. Ralph and our school, Holy Name of Mary.  Just for your information.

· A disappointed woman called Butterball’s Thanksgiving Turkey Talk-Line wondering why her  turkey had no breast meat. After a conversation with an operator, it became apparent that the woman’s turkey was lying on the table upside down.

· A gentleman called Butterball’s Thanksgiving Turkey Talk-Line to tell the operator he cut his  turkey in half with a chain saw and wanted to know if the oil from the chain would adversely affect the turkey.

· A proud gentleman called to tell the Butterball staff how he wrapped his turkey in a towel and stomped on it several times, breaking the bones so it would fit in his pan.
