FROM THE PASTOR…..MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, I would like to take this time to reflect upon the PARISH MISSION. When I think of the days of the Mission, the only thing that comes to mind is the word – WOW! With approximately 300 people attending each evening, Jon Leonetti led us on a short spiritual journey through the love of God, with the hope that his talks will lead us to a life-long spiritual journey ending in God’s loving embrace. For those who attended, I believe hearts were renewed. After the last talk, many parishioners said, “This was something we needed for a long time.” Other comments, “Wasn’t he great,” “What a wonderful three days.” And I totally agree. In our private conversations, Jon was highly impressed with the vitality of the parish, the expression of the love of God at the weekend Masses and the attendance at his talks. He had nothing but praise for OLV. I pray that now that the Mission is over, we may continue to be renewed each day in God’s love and care to experience His presence in our lives.
I want to THANK the Outreach Committee for taking the leadership role in organizing the Mission. I want to thank all those who baked cookies for the reception, both after the evening talks and the Wednesday evening Mass in honor of Our Lady. I want to thank Joe Malafarina and Anne Kennedy for leading us in praise music before each talk. And finally, a heartfelt thanks to those who came to the talks. I am so grateful to all of you and may God bless you for your generosity of your time. Remember, God is never outdone in generosity. I am sure He will bless you in many ways.
Over the last month the school sponsored its ANNUAL WALK-A-THON. The walk-a-thon is the only school fundraiser for the year. It takes the place of selling, candy, Christmas wrapping paper, magazines and the like. As of this typing, $70,120.00 was raised through the generosity of so many school parents, organizations, family and friends. The amount already raised is $12,000 over last year’s totals. And the good news is that not all receipts have been collected and the totals will go up. I am so very grateful to all those who contributed to this fundraiser for the school. Every penny raised by the walk-a-thon will STAY IN THE SCHOOL FOR CHILDREN ACTIVITIES. No money will come to the rectory for church items. I am so very proud of our school family and friends who helped to make this endeavor a huge success. And special thanks go out to Danielle Montler and Bill Zally for being the co-chairs of this event, working so hard the entire year. May God bless you all.
QUOTES FROM THE POPE – When writing to the Priests, Religious and Faithful on October 1, 2012, Pope Francis says, “Crossing the threshold of faith means trusting and acting in the power of the Holy Spirit, who is present in the church and manifests himself in the signs of the times. It means joining in the constant flow of life and history without succumbing to the paralyzing defeatism that views past times as better. It is an urgency to think in new ways, offer new suggestions, and create new things, kneading life with the new leaven of sincerity and truth.” Words, inspired by the Holy Spirit and proclaimed by our Holy Father Pope Francis.
