FROM THE PASTOR…MY DEAR PARISH FAMILY, how often have you read in the Gospels that Jesus went off by Himself to pray and be alone with the Father? Many times you will find Him praying to the Father seeking guidance, rest and energy. He needed this time alone, without pressure or duties to be accomplished. The church in her wisdom therefore states that priests must do the same. Therefore this week I will be making my mandatory CANONICAL RETREAT. Normally the diocesan priest’s retreats are given in June. However, with everything that was going on here at OLV I was not able to make it. So before everything gets going once again, I decided to go now. I will be away for the week and will return for the weekend Masses. I trust that Fr. Val, Fr. Mike and Deacon David will be able to keep the parish afloat. Please keep me and all the priests who will be making their retreat in your prayers. This is a very important time in the ministry of the priests.
Now that school is in full operating order, I want to THANK all those who made the first few weeks successful and orderly. It was great to see the kids once again, to see their smiling faces and hear their laughter once again. At the first school Mass, we introduced the theme for the year – UNITED AS ONE IN THE SPIRIT. The staff and priests are dedicated to make that theme a reality in the school. With the cooperation of parents, I am sure it will happen. And so, welcome back students and let us have a great year!
For all those interested in SERVING, you will be getting a slip of paper through the school or CCD classes asking for your name and phone number. Very shortly, I and Deacon Dave will be holding serving sessions in the church. It seems that there is some confusion on the procedures that we will be using here at OLV. I will be conducting the practices after the Wednesday morning school Mass for the school students and at a date to be determined for those in public school. It is my hope that not only those desiring to serve will come but also those who are already serving will attend.
And along those lines, I hope to have classes for those interested in becoming LECTORS AND EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS for our liturgies. Now that the summer vacation period is “unofficially over”, the sessions will be held very shortly. Please keep watch in the bulletin for exact times and dates.
LESS THAN 10 SEATS REMAIN! Once again, parishioners are asked to mark on your calendars September 24th. Our Lady of Victory will travel to Sight and Sound Theatre for the production of MOSES. This production is billed as one of their most spectacular events ever produced. The cost for this trip is just $75.00, which included bus transportation, ticket to see the show and dinner afterwards at Hershey Farms. Please call the rectory now to reserve your seat for this wonderful production.
I would like to call your attention to the INSERT in today’s bulletin. We are about to begin photography for our new FAMILY DIRECTORY, and we need YOU to make it complete. Review the information in the bulletin. We are happy to offer you the service of professional photography.
HUMOR FOR THE WEEK - One night a wife found her husband standing over their baby's crib. Silently she watched him. As he stood looking down at the sleeping infant, she saw on his face a mixture of emotions: disbelief, doubt, skepticism. Touched by this unusual display and the deep emotions it aroused, with eyes glistening she slipped her arm around her husband. "A penny for your thoughts," she said. "It's amazing!" he replied. "I just can't see how anybody can make a crib like that for only $46.50."
