Music Opportunities at OLV

posted Aug 3, 2018, 8:38 AM by Diane Lapinski   [ updated Sep 7, 2018, 5:23 AM ]

Music Opportunities at OLV - Now that Fall is fast approaching, with school starting and steamy summer starting to fade, it’s time to start thinking of new opportunities.  It’s one of the busiest times of the year but a time to consider starting anew.  I’ve tried to spend some of my summer time during Mass to actually LISTEN to people around me.  And, as Music Director here at OLV, I’m very pleased with what I’ve been hearing.  Many people are actually singing out when participating in the Mass.  Some are more shy, more reserved, but still singing, and that’s a good thing.  You may not  realize it but, you ARE NEEDED at OLV.  You may notice the organists, cantors, singers, instrumentalists, lectors, readers, ushers,   Eucharistic ministers and others who are quite  visible at Mass.  Take some time to consider how YOU may help in the near future.  Just like “getting your feet wet” this summer, before splashing in the pool, you have the opportunity to “get your feet” wet in one of the music programs here at OLV.  Next week, I’ll be more specific in your “opportunities”, but start thinking about all of the groups who really need YOU in service to our Lord and OLV.   God Bless, Joe Malafarina, Music    Director.

The OLV Choirs will begin rehearsing and singing in the coming weeks.  If you’ve ever thought about adding your voice to one of the groups, this is your chance to get started. No previous experience is necessary!  OLV needs YOUR help!

The Sanctuary Choir sings at 9:30am or Noon Mass on Sundays throughout the year.  They will have their first rehearsal on Thursday, September 13, at 7 PM in the Activities Center Music Suite.   You don’t have to be a great singer or great reader to get started in this warm, welcoming group!  Give it a try!

The Contemporary Choir will rehearse at 8:30am right before Mass, Sunday, September 23.  This is a low pressure way to get started in an OLV Choir with the group singing regular, “contemporary    music” at 9:30am or Noon Mass.

Spirits of Fire, a small, contemporary ensemble, will be rehearsing on Wednesday, October 3 at 7 PM in the AC Music Suite.  They sing at 4 PM Mass on Saturday, October 6.  This group  welcomes singers, guitarists, percussionists and other instrumentalists as well.  Come make a “joyful noise” with us!

OLV Bell Choir – see Gail Ritchey for more information on their rehearsal and performance schedule.  The Bell Choir will play at Noon Mass on Sunday, September 16.  Attend Noon Mass and see just what Bell Choir does! For more information, call Gail at 883-3022.

Resurrection Choir – sings regular hymns at all funeral and memorial Masses throughout the year.  This group is made up of mostly retired parishioners, but anyone is welcome to sing at any funeral Mass.

Instrumentalists – we have many talented musicians in the parish and some instrumentalists are well known.  Some of our OLV Talent is NOT well known, but still needed at various times of the years.  Please give Joe a call if you want to offer your services.  Even if you are a beginner, check out the opportunities available.  Not sure – call Joe. Contact info is listed below.

For more information on the choirs, please contact Joe Malafarina at 814-237-7832, ext. 423, (cell) 814-571-3088, (home) 466-6343 or email:  [email protected].

Sound System Survey

posted Oct 3, 2013, 7:58 AM by Fr. Matthew Baum   [ updated Jan 23, 2015, 12:16 PM by Diane Lapinski ]

As you may be aware, we've had some concerns expressed about our new sound system.  Since the Church, like most spaces, if very different when full than when empty, we need to get more input from you about exactly where and when you may have trouble hearing.  (and of course where it works well).

So please take two minutes of your time to fill out this survey!

Please note that we made some significant improvements on Tues, Oct 1st, so please treat this survey as "things you hear after Oct 1st"
